Does the Library have wifi? And how do I connect to it?

Yes, SOU Information Technology (IT) provides wireless Internet access to all employees and students at SOU with coverage extending to the entirety of the Ashland campus, including the Library, through the SOU-Wireless network.

There are actually two networks, SOU-Guest and SOU-Wireless. In short, SOU-Guest will not require you to log in, while SOU-Wireless will.

SOU-Guest is the preferred Wi-Fi for mobile devices, such as phones, due to not having to authenticate. It has a 20Mbps bandwidth limit, and will allow you to reach publicly facing web servers.

SOU-Wireless requires you to authenticate each day you are on campus. It doesn’t have an imposed bandwidth limit, and will let you access much of the internal SOU network.

SOU IT provides instructions for access to the network from a Windows computer and from a Macintosh

SOU-Wireless is an open wireless network, which means you do not need a special key or a password to connect to it. Users without a SOU network account can select “Guest” when prompted. It does, however, require that computers are patched and have a current anti-virus program before connecting to the Internet through SOU-Wireless. This is to provide a safe, user-friendly environment for everyone on the wireless network.

Smart phones and tablets do not require registration or anti-virus. Just connect and start browsing.
